When Trouble Comes
Why do You stand afar off, O Lord? Why do You hide in times of trouble?
Psalm 10:1
In Psalm 10, the Psalmist asked a question well known to those who follow God; the Psalmist's concern is over the seeming inactivity of God. The Psalmist felt that God was afar off and even hide in times of trouble.
As oppression, corruption, disease and persecution permeate our world, have you felt like the psalmist when he asked, “Why, Lord, do you stand far off?” (Psalm 10:1).
At times in our life, when trials, turmoil and tribulation, death and disease come, it can seem to obscure everything and everyone else, God can seem to us to be “far off.”
In such times, we can feel abandoned by God. In such times, we need to remind ourselves, that the Lord has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we may say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper” (Hebrews 13:5-6). Therefore, we can each place our faith, and our trust not in our feelings, but in God's Word. When we do that, that's when we discover the Treasure of God's word.
